Ingredients

2 - 16 oz packages extra firm tofu, drained and blotted dry

½ Tbsp smoked paprika

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

½ tsp mustard powder

½ tsp ground cumin

¼ tsp salt

¼ tsp black pepper

1 c. store-bought BBQ sauce

2 Tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions:

  1. Slice each tofu block lengthwise into six 1-in thick “ribs” for a total of 12 tofu ribs. Arrange the ribs in a single layer in a 9x13-in baking dish.

  2. In a small bowl, mix together all of your spices. Use this spice mix to season the tofu planks on all sides.

  3. In a medium saucepan, warm the barbecue sauce over medium-high heat for about 1 minute, or until bubbling.

  4. Pour the sauce over the tofu ribs and turn to coat each piece. Cover the dish tightly with foil and refrigerate for at least 12 hours or up to overnight.

  5. When ready to cook, move to a rack in the center of the oven and turn on the broiler. Line a sheet pan with aluminum foil and drizzle with oil.

  6. Arrange the ribs on the prepared sheet pan about 1 inch apart, leaving any excess barbecue sauce in the baking dish.

  7. Broil for 3 to 5 minutes, until the tops of the tofu are browned and sticky, keeping a close eye on them, so they don't burn.

  8. Remove the pan from the oven, flip the tofu, return to the oven, and continue broiling for about 3 minutes more, until crispy dark spots appear.
